Samuel Perez’s Testimony on Quitting Social Media Christian Influencing
Reflecting on Ministry, Social Media, and the Future
Samuel Perez never thought he would be making an episode like this, but he feels it’s finally time to be honest. In a recent podcast episode, he revealed that he is considering quitting YouTube and no longer believes in social media Christian influencing. This podcast episode delves into why he feels this way and what the future of his ministry may hold.
A Journey of Transformation
Samuel Perez is the host of Christian in Progress, a podcast that shares his unique journey from being a former gay stripper to becoming a devoted follower of Christ. Through this platform, he has shared how and why he left the homosexual lifestyle, offering support to others with similar struggles and providing insight to those who may not fully understand the challenges of such a transformation. His mission has always been to be transparent about living a Christ-centered life in today’s world.
However, in his recent episode, Perez shares a new chapter in his story. He admits that his beliefs and approach to life have changed significantly over the past few years. Having started his YouTube channel about five or six years ago, Perez acknowledges that he’s no longer the same person, and this shift has led him to question his role as a social media Christian influencer.
Why He's Rethinking His Role
One of the main reasons Perez started his YouTube channel was because, growing up, he couldn’t find voices within the Christian community that he could relate to. Most testimonies he encountered came from much older individuals who had come to Christ later in life after living decades in the LGBTQ+ lifestyle. While their stories were powerful, Perez, as a young man, didn’t see himself in their narratives.
Driven by the Holy Spirit, Perez felt called to share his own testimony to fill that gap. His goal was simple: to provide an example for young Christians, especially those grappling with same-sex attraction, that they too could have a deep relationship with God.
But over the years, Perez began to experience the complexities of being a social media influencer. With a viral video reaching over 300,000 views and audiences spanning across the globe, from Germany to South Africa, Perez achieved what many Christian influencers aim for: a large platform. Yet, he quickly realized that the influence he had gained wasn’t everything he imagined it would be.
The Struggles Behind the Scenes
As Perez reflects on his journey, he shares that there’s much more behind the scenes than what people might see from the outside. Being a Christian influencer comes with unique pressures. Beyond the large audience, there are challenges that come with maintaining a public image, delivering content consistently, and staying true to one’s faith while navigating social media platforms designed to amplify personalities rather than messages.
Perez has also had a front-row seat to the inner workings of the Christian influencer community, which gave him insight into both the positives and negatives of this path. He shares how, when you’re in a position of influence, doors are opened that the average person doesn’t see, exposing the cracks and complexities of mainstream Christian ministry. This behind-the-scenes perspective has further shaped his decision to reassess his role and the direction he wants to take.
A Time for Pause and Reflection
While Perez is considering stepping back from social media influencing, this doesn’t mean he is leaving ministry altogether. He remains deeply committed to his calling, but he’s taking time to pause, reflect, and seek God’s guidance on what the next phase of his ministry might look like. He’s exploring new directions for how he can serve others, possibly away from the spotlight of social media.
For Perez, this moment isn’t about saying goodbye, but rather about embracing a new chapter, one that might involve different ways of spreading the gospel and connecting with others.
