Hello everyone,
Today, I want to share with you the inspiring journey of Rani, a compassionate soul on a mission to rescue and care for the stray dogs of Lombok, Indonesia.
In 2017, Rani made the courageous decision to move to Lombok, where she was immediately struck by the heart-breaking sight of countless stray dogs suffering on the streets. Witnessing their plight – left to starve, untreated for illnesses, and discarded with their puppies – deeply moved her.
"The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel." - Proverbs 12:10
Rani's first encounter with the dire situation came when she met a stray mother dog whom she named "Babo." Babo had 7 precious puppies, but Rani's initial ignorance about proper care led to devastating consequences. Unaware of the importance of vaccinations and sterilization, many of Babo's puppies tragically succumbed to the parvovirus.
"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." - Proverbs 31:8
To make matters worse, Rani's efforts to help were met with hostility from some of her Balinese neighbors, who viewed dogs as pests and even indulged in consuming dog meat. Despite facing backlash and being forced out of her home, Rani's determination to help these innocent animals only grew stronger.
"Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble." - Psalm 41:1
As Rani's rescued dogs began to grow, the challenge of providing for them became increasingly difficult. Unable to afford specialized dog food, she resorted to feeding them human food, trading to buy rice and vitamins to ensure their well-being.
"Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality." - Romans 12:13
However, the struggles persisted. The limited space in Rani's home meant she couldn't rescue every abandoned puppy, leading her to shelter them in an old building. Tragically, some fell victim to poisonings by heartless individuals.
"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." - Proverbs 3:27
In March 2020, a glimmer of hope emerged when Rani discovered affordable sterilization options for female dogs. With the help of a kind veterinarian, Mr. Gede Sudiana, she was able to sterilize three female dogs in her care, right in her own home. Despite the ongoing animosity from neighbors, the support and blessings Rani has received have kept her going.
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him." - Psalm 28:7
But the journey is far from over. Rani's heart aches for the countless stray dogs still in need of help. She dreams of a future where every dog in Lombok has access to proper care and a loving home.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
So, I humbly ask for your prayers and support for Rani. Pray for strength and resources to continue her rescue efforts. Together, let's ensure that every stray dog in Lombok receives the love and care they deserve.
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." - Colossians 3:23
