Embracing Christmas Reflections and Hopes: A Journey of Faith and Longing
Navigating Faith, Longing, and the Magic of Christmas
Christmas has always held a special place in my heart—it's a season of joy, reflection, and profound significance. The melodies of Justin Bieber's "Mistletoe" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" fill my home, setting the festive tone for each day. The Christmas spirit permeates every corner, bringing warmth and hope amidst the chilly December days.
As a convert from Hinduism, the shift from celebrating Diwali to embracing Christmas has been transformative. This year, I'm looking forward to marking the occasion by making a meaningful impact on the lives of stray cats in my neighborhood. Through a fundraiser aimed at neutering and nourishing these animals, I hope to spread compassion and care, trusting in the kindness of Good Samaritans to support this cause.
Christmas in America has always captured my imagination. The enchanting aura portrayed in movies like "Home Alone" feels like stepping into a magical world. This year, an invitation from a cherished mother figure, Helen, to spend Christmas at her humble farmhouse in Atlanta, Georgia, fills my heart with gratitude and anticipation. Helen's unwavering faith and love inspire me, reminding me of the Lord's providence in connecting kindred spirits across the globe.
While my longing to spend Christmas with my birth family persists, the complexities surrounding our faith differences and past trauma have led me to create boundaries for my own well-being. Instead, the loving support and connections fostered through social media, particularly with fellow believers, have offered a sense of belonging and encouragement. Distance may separate us physically, but the bonds forged online have been invaluable.
Reflecting on my past, I've encountered moments of shame and regrets. However, I'm reminded of the Lord's redemption and restoration. Embracing His timing, I strive to walk by faith, finding contentment in Christ's presence and the joy of salvation.
Habakkuk 3:18-19 (NIV)
¹⁸yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
¹⁹The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

Amidst my own longings for a future family, my deepest prayer for this Christmas is to witness others encountering the love and grace of Jesus Christ—my ultimate desire for this holiday season. May this Christmas bring hope, joy, and a renewed sense of faith to all who seek it.
